About the Artist

Matt Snow’s raw style tends to fluctuate through many forms including abstract expression, contemporary text art, and abstract surrealism. He begins with simple color structures and abstractions, allowing his subconscious to take hold of the composition until it eventually informs upon a true narrative for the piece; assigning meaning only after the work is complete.

When working in the surreal, Snow often presents a subliminal message to address society’s cultural norms, its people, and their frictional differences. Allowing the audience to develop their own understanding of the work. Whereas, in his more provocative series, “a 4-letter word for u”, he takes a more direct approach. Focusing on a single word so widely used in the English language, he conveys a sense of lost values, excess, and the devaluation of the individual, an allusion to modern American society. Raw and unadulterated, it forces the viewer to reassign value to the word itself and to ourselves.
